By now, you’ve probably already heard that you need to be blogging. Having your own blog can be a great way to drive more traffic to your website, build deeper relationships with your target audience, generate more leads, and even make more sales. Hopefully, you already have your own blog. If not, I strongly encourage you to get one (for all of the reasons I just mentioned and more!).

Today, I’m here to talk about why you need to be guest blogging. That is, I’m here to tell you that you should spend time writing for other blogs this year. No, I’m not saying to give up your own blog. Make sure you keep up with your blog, but you should also make a strong effort to publish content on other blogs as well.

Why should guest blogging be part of your marketing strategy?

Guest blogging offers a ton of potential benefits, including:

  • INCREASE BRAND AWARENESS —  By getting your content published on other blogs, you can reach an audience that you may not have been able to reach otherwise. This gives you a huge opportunity to get your name out there and build brand awareness. And as people begin to recognize your brand, they start to trust you a little more, and as they start to trust you a little more, they begin to feel more comfortable doing business with you.
  • DRIVE TRAFFIC TO YOUR WEBSITE —  Guest blogging is a great way to direct visitors to your website. Typically, blog owners allow you to include 1 or 2 links back to your website in your guest post (usually in the author bio section of your post), so this gives you a chance to make a little pitch and get some clicks.
  • BUILD YOUR CREDIBILITY AND POSITION YOUR BRAND AS A THOUGHT LEADER —  People like to do business with companies and people who know what they’re doing. That’s why it’s so important to position yourself as an expert in your field. By guest blogging, you can do just that. When you start popping up as a guest author on various blogs in your field, people will begin to view you as a thought leader, which is a key to building your brand.
  • GROW YOUR NETWORK —  You’ve probably heard it said that it’s not what you know but who you know. There’s a lot of truth to this statement. Guest blogging gives you the opportunity to network with other bloggers in your field and with your target audience. The relationships that you build can absolutely help you build your brand.
  • IMPROVE YOUR SEARCH ENGINE RANKINGS —  This may be the most attractive benefit of guest blogging. As I mentioned earlier, when you guest blog, you are typically allowed to include links back to your website. Links are great currency with Google. The more high quality links you have pointed back to your website, the better. This shows the search engines that your website is a trustworthy resource, and thus you will be ranked higher. Just make sure to use well selected keywords in the anchor text of your links.

There are so many great benefits to guest blogging. Give it a shot in the new year and see how it benefits your brand.
